BA Fun Run Thursday July 5th Volunteers Call

All,

Thursday July 5th is the date of this year’s BA Fun Run with the usual venue of Harmondsworth Moor (Waterside). Please volunteer to help marshal for this event. Reply to me at Roderick.hoffman@ba.com with your name and availability and any other details or questions. Last year we did get a free meal ticket each for our efforts.

Why?

  • This is our annual opportunity to do something for BA,
  • This year we have avoided a clash with the Standard Chartered Great City Race (on the 12th),
  • This is the biggest event the BAAC are asked to exclusively marshal each year,
  • Every penny raised goes to charity - over the years this event has raised a total of £876,186 for Cancer Research UK so this year we may make it the million!,
  • For the last two years the main BA organiser, Beverly Pearce, has been given a “Flame of Hope” award by CRUK for the fund raising of the BA Fun Run – she is embarrassed by this since she knows it is a team effort – and I want her to be so embarrassed three years in a row!,
  • It is the best opportunity the club has to get more interest in new joiners for the club (see below).

So please offer your availability for the evening of Thursday 5th July. Please confirm also your earliest arrival time – hopefully 16:30 or earlier. The “Little Legs” kids’ run is due off at 17:00 so I’ll need to guarantee that we can line a 1k circuit with marshals for that time. The main race is from 18:00 and we need to provide course marshals and a results service. I’ve agreed with Beverly that the BAAC will email the results to all participants – this will include a promotional piece selling the club. I would hope that we can get the results out by the next morning!

Also… Can any Waterside residents offer to do lunchtime training jogs with participants on any of the following dates:

  • Monday 18th June
  • Thursday 21st June
  • Monday 25th June
  • Thursday 28th June
  • Monday 2nd July

The pace will be slow – e.g. 9 to 12 minute miles and the distance short – e.g. 2-3k.

Please reply to me at Roderick.hoffman@ba.com with your name and availability and any other details or questions.

thanks in anticipation,

Roderick Hoffman
