Windsor 20 miler (Sunday 24 March 2013) - InformationI’ve mentioned this Windsor Park 20 mile training event in my marathon training updates. Quite a number of runners have asked me about this event so here is some more information. You don’t have to be doing a marathon to take part by the way ! It is organised annually by Datchet Dashers although they don’t publicise it widely (or much even on their website), but it is open to all runners and is free to enter – just turn up on the day. You need to sign in with an expected time and to collect a coloured ribbon before the start at 9am. There are normally between 60 and 100 runners wide ranging from 6 to 12+ minute milers The route is shown on the link: https://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?msid=215760422477443848147.0004d81f52c1d289e6ae9&msa=0&ll=51.455291,-0.596352&spn=0.162803,0.308647 It starts near Windsor Castle, from their clubhouse in Romney Lock Road, Home Park, Windsor SL4 6HX. There is public parking at the beginning of the road, but I would suggest you drive up to the top of the road which is shown for Sports Club members only and place a note in your windscreen that you are part of the Datchet Dashers run with your name shown (check this with members there as I am sure they can issue a sticker if required for the day). Otherwise, Windsor & Eton Riverside rail station is just at the beginning of the road. The course follows a route down through Old Windsor, into Windsor Park and
around Virginia Water Lake and then back a slightly different way through Old
Windsor and back. Apart from the long steep Priest Hill at about 5 miles the
rest of the course is only mildly undulating. The Dashers provide marshals and
water stations.
