BAAC: Green Belt Relay 2012, 19th & 20th May. Runners and helpers required
Hi Everyone,
REQUIRED. For the past Eight Years the Club has supported this Event with 11
team runners, together with willing helpers and 3 drivers, all of which give up
their weekends to assist the team on their way around a very scenic circuit of
some 220 miles. At this moment we have 6 runners from last years team, and would
have more but for current injuries and sadly illnesses. We therefore need
at least 6/8 runners to come forward to ensure a full team and some helpers who
are able to spend even a 1/2day to help with marshalling or with water.
THE EVENT. The relay starts inside Hampton Court Palace on Saturday morning at
08.30 and finishes at around 17.30 on Sunday. In all there are 22 Stages, 11
each day of varying distances of 6miles to 13miles. The route is scenic
throughout with towpaths, bridle ways, villages, parks and countryside being
about 90% Off Road. Each stage of the event is a race, and a runner will run one
Stage each day. The event is supported by 30/40 teams.
Saturday evening our team stay at a reasonably priced Motel with an evening
meal. Most of us stay at the Motel but a few of the team return Home and
next morning meet
at their Stage run.
Finally, I would suggest if you are interested further, and hope you are, you
visit the excellent website:
www.greenbeltrelay.org.uk and see for yourselves that it is probably one of
the best events in the UK and is extremely well organised. Ask any of the Club
runners who have taken part.
