Good conditions but a low turnout due to the holiday season.  Some slower times though Steve and Roderick were only respectively 4 and 8 seconds down on their bests.

Wednesday 20th August club event with BBQ REPLY NOW

Just 6 "yes please" and 2 "no thank you" so far for the BBQ.  We need to order the right number so please let us know that you are coming and also any special food orders (otherwise we'll assume that you are a straightforward meat eater).  The BBQ will be complimentary for Club Members (full and associates).  The meal will also be free for non-members though entry to the Concorde Centre will be required so Associates and other non-members will need to pay the door fee.  Email me at roderick@rhoff.org.uk .

Monopoly Diamond Event August 27th

Linda & I enjoyed significant birthdays this summer - thank you to BAAC for the cake.  To acknowledge this, we're arranging a Club In-house Event on August 27th.  The event starts at 1800, or you are welcome to come and join us for a drink in the bar afterwards.

The event is open to all standards, from two year olds to ninety two year olds.  It's a tortoise and hare event - walkers could win!  It will involve up to 40 minutes of running/strolling, playing Monopoly like you've never played it before and a sense of fun.  Everyone is welcome!  If you really don't want to take part and could help marshal, you will also be welcome!

Results of 4th Vets T&F league Perivale 14th July 2014.

Hi Everyone,

Although we came 5th in the Men’s Vets league this year, what a season it has been for club records!!  Janet Smith , who has re-joined the club this year, has blasted her age cat records every time she competes it seems.  As for Alan ‘the bolt’ Anderson, well what  can you say at another seven age cat records in one evening.  Steve Hillier, not to be outdone on the evening, blasted a 14m beating of the previous MV60 Hammer record.

Well done to all that have competed at the various events this season , I believe if we keep this up next season we will get to the final for the 1st time.  Can’t wait till next year!!

Results of 6th Rosenheim league match Woking 16th July 2014

Hi Everyone,

Again the Men’s team came 5th in the Rosenheim league but only just missed reaching the final by a few points.  Well done to all athletes from the club who came to compete in these 6 match events.

Also running at Woking as a non-scorer was John Coffey MV70.  He ran the 3000m in 13.56.3.  That means that the MV65  & MV70 records set by Alan Anderson at Perivale which he held for 2 days, are now held by John.

What a year for records and the season it not over yet.

{Barry Walters got the spotters prize last week for noticing that I (Roderick) had got the "grade" results column wrong.  This week I've sorted the table by distance from the Concorde Centre at Heston but I'm not interested in correspondence on the accuracy of the crow-fly distances!}

As could be expected with a membership made up of travel industry professionals the roaming continued for another week but the best performances were probably those in the London area.

Natalie Ruffell who has recently formally joined as an associate member ran a parkrun pb (20:16) round the fast Fulham Palace course and is getting closer to that 20 minute barrier - Kat remains our fastest lady with a best ever time of 18:52 but the gap from Natalie could narrow.  Tony Hird told Roderick on Friday that he was up for a good run and he was right, achieving a PB on his 70th outing. Alan Friar's Wednesday evening speed training is paying dividends and he clocked another 2014 best time (26:44), almost a minute faster than the previous week.

Roderick Hoffman visited St Anne's in Dublin (where the WARR events will be held) and achieved his 82nd parkrun finish and met a couple of BA Clubs members running there also!  Steve Newell combined some parkrun tourism with an officials role at the British Triathlon Championships in Liverpool with a run in Princes Park.

A late spot - Adrian Haines ran at Tilgate on 5th July, came in first and recorded a course pb of 18:00 minutes (80.00%).  That's the third time he has been the fastest runner of the day at Tilgate.  It was his first parkrun since 7th December 2013 - a genuine rival for Gary Rushmer.

Budapest Runway run - 6th Sept / Entry deadline 20th August REPLY NOW

WARR has partnered with “bud:runway run” and anna.aero to promote both WARR Dublin 2014 and the 12km/6km races taking place on Budapest's Runway 13R-31L in September.

Because the Budapest Airport runway run takes place on the airside, strict security measures are in place meaning we must close entries by August 20. Therefore I appeal to you to let us  know if you plan to send a team. Indeed if you need more time to get your entries together we will work with the authorities to extend the deadline, but we need to know your intention to run if we are going to do that!

There is a top trophy for "The Fastest Airline In The World" - and right now Southwest Airlines has put down the strongest team to win this event. As your airline's chief competitive running representative, it's entirely down to you to decide if you are happy to let Southwest win.

Warm regards,

Kerry

"bud:runway run" Race Coordinator
